Shirel Jones is a Detroit-based interdisciplinary artist, creative educator, choreographer, and founder of Lil’ Dumplins, a platform dedicated to connecting children, families, and communities through movement, storytelling, and play. With over a decade of experience, her work bridges early childhood arts education, live performance, choreography, family engagement, and digital content creation, all grounded in a deep belief that the arts can nurture confidence, creativity, emotional growth, and belonging.

 

Her creative practice lives at the intersection of artistic excellence and developmental insight. Shirel has developed original movement-based programs for young children, coached teachers and caregivers through arts-integrated residencies, collaborated with musicians and arts organizations, and created virtual content that makes high-quality arts learning more accessible to families and educators. Her work has been presented in classrooms, libraries, community spaces, family performance settings, and online platforms, with engagements that include the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Opera House.

As an award-winning artist and educator, Shirel has been recognized through honors and funding including the Kresge Gilda Award, Starfish Grant, Culture Source Flourish Fund, YoungArts Award and the Jubilation Foundation Fellowship. Whether partnering with schools, arts institutions, community organizations, funders, or brands, she brings a collaborative spirit, a strong community-centered vision, and a gift for creating work that is engaging, thoughtful, and built to resonate across generations.
